Hi parents,
We had a great day today! The classes across the hall were away on a field trip, so it was so quiet all day, and I think we all appreciated that a lot.
This morning, the students worked on Remembrance Day mini-books, and we had some more great class discussions.
I also got to work in small groups with everyone in the class to see how they're all doing with subtraction, and I was very impressed by what I saw! I don't think I've ever had so many Grade 2 students who have already figured out subtraction with borrowing. It is probably the most challenging skill they have to learn in math until Grade 5, in my opinion, so the fact that most Grade 2 students in the class have already got a strong handle on it is fantastic.
The Grade 1 students are doing really well too - today we talked about how to use the 'counting on' strategy to solve subtraction problems with mental math.
In the afternoon, we had Daily 5 and Music, and then we ended the day with a game called "Things in a Box". For this game, the kids students had to write down words and phrases, and I had to guess who wrote what.
We have a Volunteer Opportunity coming up on Nov. 27! Please see the previous post for more information. :)
Have a good night,
Zac
