Thursday, October 3

Hi parents,

Today was a rollercoaster of a day for our class. The morning was fantastic - the students worked so hard on their writing prompt (which asked them to write about something they are afraid of, and also some ways that they are brave), and we did more subtraction too. I also showed the students a new math game that helps them practice identifying odd and even numbers.

The afternoon was less fantastic, unfortunately, and I had to 'get mad' at the students for talking over instructions repeatedly. That being said, we did manage to do another science experiment involving colouring mixing! Basically, we tried to use paper towels as 'bridges' to allow coloured water to transfer into a cup of clear water. It sort of worked.... The paper towels that we used must not have been absorbent enough, because the clear water only became slightly tinted. We had to cheat a little bit and use extra food colouring. Even still, the students had a great time watching the colours mix, and it was cool to water the droplets of food colouring spread across the paper towels.

At the end of the day, we had a Peace Conference, and talked more about the importance of being respectful listeners in class. We were able to end the day on a high note. :) Also, there were birthday cupcakes, so that might have helped.

Tomorrow is...

-Our spelling quiz! Good luck!

-The Class Dojo Store! The students have been earning points over the past few weeks in our Class Dojo. They have been awarded points for trying their best, being kind, helping others, being Guest Reader, and following classroom expectations. Tomorrow, they will have a chance to 'spend' their points on a variety of things I've acquired from my exclusive supplier (you may know it as Dollarama).

Blog Homework: Solve this highly relevant subtraction problem:
"Chaz has 16 Dojo Points. He spends 10 on a Halloween Eraser. How many points will he have left?"
Advanced: "Chaz has 33 Dojo Points. He spends 15 on an Indoor Recess Ticket. How many will he have left?"

Have a great night!

Zac
