Friday, October 4

Happy Friday!
This morning, we had our first Class Dojo Store, and it was really interesting to see how the students processed it. Many students had a hard time understanding that they could only buy things that cost less than the amount of points they had. I think the subtraction practice we've done this week helped the class solve their spending dilemmas independently, which is a huge part of this activity.
After Gym, I split the class into groups, and worked with the Grade 1 students using the Math Rack material, which is basically a simplified abacus that is perfect for solving basic addition and subtraction problems. The Grade 2 students tried out some of the new math games we've acquired.
We had some Daily 5 time, and then did a quick art activity where the kids learned how to draw cute (or scary) jack-o-lanterns. At the end of the day we had birthday cupcakes - again!
Have a good weekend,
Zac
