Hi parents,
We had a great first day back! It sounds like everyone enjoyed their breaks. I enjoyed mine but I'm happy to be back at work.
In the morning, as you can probably guess, the students wrote in their journals about their Spring Breaks. The catch was, they had to pick one specific event, and write about that in detail, rather than just listing off every single thing they did. Challenging students to limit themselves to one experience forces them to focus on the specific details and write cohesive sentences that flow and build on one another. As opposed to just bombarding the reader with the repetitive: "On Monday I played video games. On Tuesday I ran around. On Wednesday I ....etc."
We reviewed long division and multi-digit by single-digit multiplication today. It was a super challenging worksheet but it was awesome to see that most students still remember everything we'd done leading up to the break.
We practiced spelling, and that brought us to the lunch bell.
In the afternoon, we had Music, Mindfulness, and our first gymnastics class.
We ended our day with Daily LA.
Have a nice night!
Zac
