Spelling List A
Spelling List B
Spelling List C
These are the spelling words we'll be practicing in class next week. Each student is responsible for choosing one list that they feel is at a good level for them - not too hard, but not too easy. Students should feel somewhat familiar with the words on the list, but not to the point that they already know how to spell all of them. It may take students a few weeks to figure out what list is best for them, and changing lists throughout the year is completely okay too!
Practicing at home is completely optional! I've noticed that students who do practice at home tend to approach our weekly quizzes with more confidence and sometimes even enthusiasm.
Every Friday, I post the spelling words for the upcoming week. We have a casual, low-pressure quiz at the end of each week. These quizzes are not meant to be stressful and I don't give them much weight in terms of grading - they're mostly meant to help students learn new words, and to give them experience with studying for and taking tests.
I will talk with the students on Tuesday about how spelling practice will fit into our daily routine and show them some ways to effectively practice their words in the classroom. If you would like to give your child a head-start on choosing a list this weekend, feel free, but the students have had an awesome start to the school year and have also probably earned a break. :)
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Zac
