Wednesday, April 5

 Hi parents,

We had a great day today!

In the morning, Mr. Ripka taught the class about the 3 R's - Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. The students had the choice of writing either one paragraph, or a list of at least 7 items, about the ways in which they are / could be demonstrating these values.

After that, we officially started a project I have been looking forward to for weeks - making travel brochures with information about each of the countries we've been studying! Each student chose one country to focus on, between India, Peru, Ukraine, and Tunisia. The students then chose at least five topics to research and describe in their brochures from the following list:

-Language

-Traditions

-Food

-Wildlife

-Places to Visit

-Traditional Clothing

-Flag

-Map

-Geography

-Climate

They used online and printed resources (many of which happen to be posted in the previous blog post) to find information on the topics they chose.

Currently we are just filling out graphic organizers. Once their notes have been converted into sentence form, revised, and edited, we will begin working on good copies.

Given the fact that it took me about 2 hours to do my 'exemplar',  I am anticipating that this project will take at a couple of weeks to complete.

In the afternoon, we had Music and Daily LA. We read a bit more Ticket to Curlew, and played a 3-player multiplication math game called "Mind Reader". It's fun! All you need is a deck of cards and you can play it at home too. I will type up instructions and post them in another post.

Have a nice night!

Zac
