Hi parents,
We had a great Friday today.
The students had music in the morning, and we also did our first Spelling Quiz of the year! It went better than I could've hoped. Students seemed to have practiced the words adequately, and also selected lists that were a good difficulty level for them. I sent the quizzes home so you can see how your child did. I want to emphasize that these quizzes are not the be all and end all of literacy, and that the main goal of them is to help students learn new words and learn how to take tests.
I talked to the students about using the results of this week's quiz as guidelines for what list to select next time. If they got an A+ on this one and it felt really easy, they should move up to the next level of spelling list. If they got all the words right, but had to study hard to do it, they're probably at the right level. If they got less than half of the words correct, they may want to consider a lower level list for next week. Or, adjust their study habits!
We did a math activity called Roll It, Make It, Expand it, that helped the students practice place value.
We sketched Northern Red Oak trees, and read a few more chapters of Wish Tree.
We ended our day with a quick game of Song-Go (Name the Song Bingo).
It was a great day. :)
Have a nice weekend!
Zac
