Friday, April 16

 Happy Friday!

We had a great day today. In the morning, the students finally got to see their movie "21 Ways to Clean Up", which we've been filming in class for the past month. The director was incredibly inefficient which is why it took so long. The kids had a great time seeing themselves and their classmates on the SMARTboard, and it seemed to generate a lot of enthusiasm about cleaning up (which is something we've been lacking all year!)

The students did a writing activity after reading the book, "Pig the Star". For this task, they wrote about what they would do if they were famous. They also had to think about what brought them into fame in the first place.

We began to work on our classroom's "Acknowledgment of the Land". We brainstormed reasons that we are thankful for the land. We talked about how nice it is to live in a place that has snow, rain, fresh air, warm, sunny days, and plenty of space to play.

We had our spelling quiz, and then did a "Film Studies" activity. The students watched the Pixar Short: "The Blue Umbrella", which is a love story involving two umbrellas and a bunch of other urban scenery that comes to life and helps the umbrellas get together.

We had a great discussion afterwards. The students seemed to really enjoy this one. It's available on Disney Plus, and I think you can find some low resolution versions of it online too.

The students drew pictures of umbrellas with faces. Then, they looked around the classroom for examples of other 'faces' on a variety of classroom objects.

Stay tuned for next week's spelling words - have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you to our Lake Bonavista School Council for generously providing the funding for this experience.
