Spelling List A
Spelling List B
Spelling List C
Here are this week's spelling words! Students are asked to choose one spelling list and practice the words throughout the week. I encourage students to choose the list that is 'just right' for them - not too easy, not too hard.
We will be practicing each day this week as a whole class, so that students can familiarize themselves with our spelling routines and learn how to effectively practice their words. As the year progresses, students will be able to practice spelling with greater independence.
At the end of each week, we have a spelling quiz, in which students are challenged to spell each word from their chosen list from memory. These quizzes are intended to help students develop their spelling skills, gain experience working under 'test conditions', and help me get a better idea of where each student is at with their spelling abilities. I encourage students to try their best on each quiz, and there is no consequence for spelling words incorrectly. Students are always welcome to attempt more advanced words too, even if they did not practice the list!
I usually post the upcoming week's spelling words on Friday after school. Practicing at home is completely optional. While extra practice can be helpful, I also understand that many students feel pretty worn out from academics at the end of the school day, and I don't want spelling practice to get in the way of their much-needed relaxation.
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions!
Our first spelling quiz will be on Friday, September 10. Good luck!
Zac
